OCTOBER Newsletter...
Writers Give Back sponsored a Young Storytellers Foundation
mentoring program last spring at the Linwood Howe Elementary
School in Culver City. It was such a huge success that we've
been invited back. This is an excellent opportunity for you
to use your talents to give back to a group of eager fourth
and fifth grade students. We currently need three more mentors.
HOW
IT WORKS
Over the course of the six-week program (one hour session
each week), 10 elementary school students are paired with
10 volunteers, who guide and encourage the students as they
imagine, develop, and write their own short screenplay.
At the end of the six-week session, professional actors
(all volunteers) join students and mentors in staging The
Big Show, a spirited staged reading of each script for an
audience of family, teachers, and friends.

WHY
I MENTOR
The time commitment is minimal but the rewards are immense!
Each time I mentor I am amazed by the sheer brilliance that
comes out of these talented young writers. These kids' imaginations
are limitless and it is inspiring watching them create.
It is also a great way for you to encourage the next generation
of artists. It's important to note that you don't have to
be a writer to mentor - you just have to enjoy storytelling
and allow the children to guide you!
IF YOU WANT TO MENTOR
Please e-mail kate@writersgiveback.org if you are interested
in becoming a mentor or have any questions about The Young
